Frequently asked questions - shopping in store

Are any purchases final sale?

Yes. Crystals, open tarot or oracle decks, pendulums, singing bowls, sprays, and essential oils are final sale because they can absorb energy from handling.

Jewelry: Earrings cannot be returned or exchanged for hygiene reasons. Other jewelry can be exchanged or credited with a gift receipt within 14 days.

We also do not offer exchanges on used books, sale items, or any items that are not in the same condition as when they were sold.

What is the return policy?

We want you to love your treasures from Ascendant Books! Here’s how our returns and exchanges work:

  • With a receipt: You can exchange your purchase or receive in-store credit within 7 days.
  • Gift receipts: Valid for exchange or in-store credit within 14 days.
  • Final Sale Items: Some items are final sale, including crystals, tarot & oracle decks, used books, sale items, earrings, pendulums, singing bowls, sprays, and essential oils.

Jewelry:

  • Exchanges or store credit only (with a gift receipt) within 14 days.
  • Earrings are final sale for hygiene reasons—no exchanges.
  • If a jewelry item has a manufacturer defect, we may be able to exchange it or issue a store credit. Damage from everyday wear or care is not covered.

Please note: A receipt is required for all exchanges or credits.

Do you have gift certificates?

Yes! We offer gift certificates in any dollar amount—perfect for sharing a little magic with someone special. These can be used for any product in store.

Additionally, each of our tarot readers and astrologers offers gift certificates for their sessions. To arrange one, simply connect with the reader directly to create a personalized experience.

How do the blue stamp cards work?

You’ll receive one stamp for every $25 spent in-store, excluding sale and used items. Once your card is full, you can redeem it for $20 off a future purchase.

✨ Bonus stamps: Every Saturday, we run our Mr. Chicken Secret Spell Word promotion. If you share the secret spell word from our Instagram or TikTok stories at the till, you’ll receive one free stamp — no purchase required.

Stamp cards never expire, and multiple cards can be combined toward a reward.

Do you accept used books?

Yes — we occasionally accept used books for store credit. Books must be in good condition and align with the metaphysical focus of our shop. Accepted books receive store credit only; we do not offer cash payments.

All used books are accepted at our discretion and are reviewed by a member of our staff. We generally limit submissions to one box per person, and we ask that you call the store at 780-452-5372 in advance to confirm that we are currently accepting used books before bringing them in.

How can I receive my online order?

We are currently offering in-store pickup only. We expect to have shipping available Canada-wide soon - thanks for your patience.

When will I get my order?

We will work quickly to pack your order as soon as possible - this usually takes 1-2 business days (we are closed on Mondays).

Once your order is ready for pickup, you will receive an email to let you know that it is ready.

What is the return policy for online purchases?

At this time, all online orders are final sale. We are unable to accept returns or exchanges on items purchased through our online shop.

If you have questions about a product before ordering, we’re always happy to help — please contact the store prior to purchase so we can make sure it’s the right fit for you.

Can I get stamps for online orders?

Yes — online orders picked up in-store are eligible for stamps. Just bring your blue stamp card with you when you collect your order, or we’re happy to start a new one for you.

At this time, stamps are not mailed with shipped orders.

Can I pay with my gift certificate?

At this time, gift certificates can only be redeemed in person. Our gift certificates are physical, and we’re unable to apply them to online orders since they need to be presented in-store to be tracked and redeemed properly.
