Sound Therapy

Many cultures recognize the importance of music and sound as healing power. In the ancient civilization of India, the Orient, Africa, Europe, and among the Aboriginals and Amerindians, the practice of using sound to heal and achieve balance from within has existed for years. The Tibetans still use bells, chimes, bowls and chanting as the foundation for their spiritual practice. In Bali, Indonesia, the echoing, gamelong, gong and drum are used in ceremonies to uplift and send messages. The Australian Aboriginals and Native shamanists use vocal toning and repetitive sound vibration with instruments created from nature in sacred ceremony to adjust any imbalance of spirit.

Ascendant Books carries a great selection of crystal bowls, chimes, bells, sound therapy cds and books , to assist people in practicing this healing art.

How do Crystal Bowls work?
Crystal bowls: The sound and music of Crystal bowls (made from 99.8% silicon quartz), emit a pure holographic template of radiant light that corresponds to the octave of sound within our etheric body. Since sound can be translated into colour, crystal bowl therapy corresponds well with the colours of each chakra. There are Chakra Tuned ‘Singing’ Quartz crystal bowls designed for that purpose. The light and sound of Quartz Crystal bowls has the power to bring about a positive shift in our conscious awareness. Tibetan Tingsha Cymbals
Small hand cymbals attached with a leather thong, create a clear sustaining sound when struck together. This sound calms the mind and can be useful during meditation. Traditionally used by Tibetan lamas and lay practitioners as an offering of compassion and generosity to ‘hungry ghosts’ suffering from desire. The belief is that in making an offering and relieving the hunger of these ravenous spirits, their suffering is diminished and enlightenment can thereby be reached.
