Archetypes Archetypes are visual symbols or energetic imprints that exist in our psyches from a collective consciousness. Some are readily understood while others bring subliminal messages that may trigger your memory of why you are here and the truth behind the illusion of ‘reality’. Archetypes can often convey messages that verbal and written information cannot. Archetypes are found everywhere - as their symbols are a language of the mind - taken to different frequencies of thought and connected to each other by the collective unconsciousness. There are individual and universal archetypes. The term Archetype began with Carl Jung. Carl Jung Believed that the collective conscious is a level of the mind to be inherited and to contain a reservoir of ideas, symbols and archetypes that form the world’s myths and belief system. Archetypes are the common themes that arise from the collective unconscious and repeatedly appear as symbols in myths and dreams. Such archetypes as 1) Spirit 2) Wise old woman 3) Trickster 4) Shadow 5) Divine child 6) Great mother Caroline Myss: Myss famously builds upon the work of Carl Jung in her book “Sacred Contracts”, by teaching us how we have a contract to work with certain archetypal patterns in our lifetime to help us learn the lessons we are ‘contracted’ to learn. “Although archetypes are impersonal patterns of influence that are both ancient and universal, they become personalized when they are a part of your individual psyche. Since your Sacred Contract is embodied in a support system of twelve archetypes, it is best to think of them as intimate companions. They provide the foundation for your personality, drives, feelings, beliefs, motivations, and actions… They take an active role as guardians and inner allies, alerting you when you are in danger of falling into destructive or "shadow" behavior. The Saboteur, for instance, warns you when you are in a situation in which you tend to sabotage your own best interests. Once you learn to recognize such a pattern, instead of ignoring it or denying its presence, it becomes your friend and can help you avoid selling out.” Excerpt – Sacred Contracts- C.Myss. Enneagram Enneagrams are a model of personality types linking personality to spirit. There are 9 types of archetypes examined in this system, studying nine basic types of people. It explains why we behave the way we do, and it points to specific directions for individual growth. It is an important tool for improving relationships with family, friends and co -workers. The 9 archetypes are as follows: The Perfectionist, The Helper, The Achiever, The Romantic, The Observer, The Questioner, The Adventurer, The Asserter, and the Peacemaker.
