Divination is a process of connecting with divine energy for the purpose of helping one get in touch with their intuitive guidance. We receive a constant flow of guidance each and every moment of every second of every day. When we ask to receive guidance, we’re actually asking to have the ability to hear AND accept the guidance we already receive. There are many reasons why people feel they don’t receive guidance. The main one is that people don’t like what they’re hearing. Being asked to leave a partner, a toxic job, or move to another city etc, is not always the stuff we want to hear. When used responsibly, and with clear intentions, divination tools can help us receive guidance with more clarity, as they allow us to view a situation from outside ourselves. There are many mediums in which divination can be accessed. Ascendant Books carries a wide range of various tools. The following descriptions may help you understand the differences of the most popular ones. Usually, it’s a good idea to experiment with different tools until you find what works for you.

Tarot Cards
Perhaps one of the most popular mediums in North America, Tarot cards are excellent for people who are highly visual and have vivid dreams. Tarot Decks consist of 78 cards. 22 are called ‘Major Arcana’, and represent major turning points in our lives, our commitments, victories and losses. The other 56 cards are called the minor Arcana. The minor cards are divided into four groupings of: wands, swords, pentacles and cups (similar to how playing cards are divided into clubs, hearts etc). They deal with the everyday aspects of life.

Readings can be a guide to incidents and issues that need to be handled in our lives, from the past and present, so that we can make the best choices for our future prospects. One can ask to receive guidance about the best course of action, and gain insights into spiritual lessons as a tool for self-discovery.

Numerology
It’s hard to believe, but numbers, like astrological symbols, carry a power and energy all of their own! Actually, this may not be so hard to believe, considering how many cultures around the world place a high importance on numbers for various social, political and religious reasons (not to mention how many people have ‘lucky’ numbers). Numbers have carried symbolic weight since ancient civilization and they continue to do so today. This fact is a testament to the power of numbers and the impact they have on a person’s understanding of themselves and their path in life. A great book written on this subject is “The Life you Born to Live” by Dan Millman, (available at Ascendant Books).

Palmistry
The lines on your hand are as distinctive as the DNA that sets you apart as an individual, telling a great deal about your past, present, and future prospects, as well as providing insights into who you are. A practice that dates back more than 1000 years, palmistry is the study of the lines,, textures, shapes and idiosyncrasies of the hand.

Pendulums
Pendulums are characterized by a string, (leather, thread, silver chain etc), with an object affixed to one end of the chain (could be anything from a plastic bead, to a crystal or silver ball). The pendulum, when used properly, can be ‘programmed’ to swing in certain directions to give the user insights into various situations. Pendulums are said to be a direct extension of a persons intuitive abilities, as the person holds the pendulum throughout the divining process. Pendulums are famous helpers in identifying which foods, products, aroma oils etc, are most in sync with a person’s energy field. Ascendant Books carries a great selection of different pendulums, along with best selling books on this subject.

Tea Cup Readings
Unlike other forms of divination, tea leaf readings involves a lovely social ritual. In order to read the tea leaves, one must be served a cup of tea. Tea is served steaming hot and once consumed, the leave formations are interpreted for signs of what the future holds. This same ritual may be repeated using coffee grounds (best with Turkish style coffee).

Runes
A divination tool derived from Ancient carvings of symbolic meaning on stones. There are 24 symbols and one blank stone. Runes are an ancient divination tool used for readings, meditations, and ceremonies. Runes are available at Ascendant Books.

Scrying
Scrying involves staring into a reflective object such as magic mirror, crystal ball, or even a bowl of water. The act of keeping your eyes open while staring into a shining, reflective surface works like a form of meditation or self-hypnosis - the prime state for opening your awareness to psychic insight. The scrying mirrors at Ascendant Books are protected from actual view of anyone as they should only be viewed by those who will use it! Ask us for more details about this fascinating subject at our store.

I Ching
I Ching is believed to be a reflection of the natural world. Each of the 8 fundamental forces of nature - heaven, earth, fire, water, thunder, wind, mountain and lake are represented by trigams. These trigams are matched together to make hexagrams. In an I Ching reading, the hexagrams that you make as you throw the symbolic coins will give you spiritual guidance to you questions.

Oracles and other Divination tools
Ascendant Books offers an incredible selection of oracle cards that carry instantly accessible messages of inspiration and insight to the user. The most popular are various decks by Doreen Virtue. Other oracles about Angels, Shamanism, nature and more may be found at our bookstore.

Please note: All of these tools are here to guide you through your problems by showing you what is LIKELY to happen, giving you variables, and suggesting how you should behave if the event comes to pass. Like in astrology or rune reading the "outcome" is something that is likely to happen given your orientation in the world at the time of the inquiry. It is not an absolute. Any reading can be changed based upon where you are and what you decide to do.
