Chakras

“Every thought and experience you've ever had in your life gets filtered through chakra databases. Each event is recorded into your cells. In other words, "your biography becomes your biology." When chakra energy is blocked or misdirected, emotional and physical illness can arise”
Caroline Myss, author of ‘Energy Anatomy’ & ‘Sacred Contracts’

The body has energy centers that look like spinning wheels and are called, Chakras. Chakra means Wheel in Sanskrit. Chakras, like all else all in our reality, are linked to sound, light and color. The seven main chakras are described as being aligned in an ascending column from the base of the spine to the top of the head. Each chakra is associated with a certain color, multiple specific functions, an aspect of consciousness, a classical element, and other distinguishing characteristics.

The pattern of color associated with chakras are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet, which creates the basic foundation upon which many healing products, color therapies, sound therapies, essential oils, crystal therapies and color baths are based. The colors of the chakras were also the inspiration for the layout of our very own website! The chakras are thought to vitalize the physical body and to be associated with interactions of both a physical and mental nature. They are considered the loci of life energy, or prana, which is believed to flow form the crown chakra (at the top of one’s head), downwards toward the root chakra (based at the end of the spine).

Inherent in every chakra center is an essential truth, a lesson, and a deep understanding of life and the divine human existence. We highly recommend ‘Anatomy of the Spirit’, by Caroline Myss to those who wish to explore their health issues in relation to chakras. To further study the power connected to, and life lessons involved in our chakras, ‘Sacred Contracts’ by Caroline Myss is an excellent follow up of the lessons we have all come here to learn.

Ascendant Books carries an outstanding selection of information, charts, crystals, jewelry and other products that support the understanding and well being of one’s chakra energy centers.

Below is a basic description of the function of each chakra along with the Sacred Truth of each chakra, and the power it represents, as described by Caroline Myss in "Anatomy of the Spirit":

Chakra Seven: Spiritual Power
Sacred Truth: Live in the Present Moment

The crown chakra relates to consciousness as pure awareness. It is our connection to the greater world beyond, to a timeless, space-less place of all-knowing. When developed, this chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom, understanding, spiritual connection, and bliss. This chakra also represents the bridge between ‘heaven and earth’.

Chakra Six: Mental Power
Sacred Truth: Seek Only Truth

This chakra is known as the brow chakra or third eye center. It is related to the act of seeing, both physically and intuitively. As such it opens our psychic faculties and our understanding of archetypal levels. When healthy it allows us to see clearly, in effect, letting us "see the big picture."

Chakra Five: Will Power and Self-Expression
Sacred Truth: Surrender Personal Will to Divine Will

This is the chakra located in the throat and is thus related to communication and creativity. Here we experience the world symbolically through vibration, such as the vibration of sound representing language.

Chakra Four: Emotional Power
Sacred Truth: Love is Divine Power

This chakra is called the heart chakra and is the middle chakra in a system of seven. It is related to love and is the integrator of opposites in the psyche: mind and body, male and female, persona and shadow, ego and unity. A healthy fourth chakra allows us to love deeply, feel compassion, have a deep sense of peace and centeredness.

Chakra Three: Personal Power
Sacred Truth: Honor Oneself

This chakra is known as the power chakra, located in the solar plexus. It rules our personal power, will, and autonomy, as well as our metabolism. When healthy, this chakra brings us energy, effectiveness, spontaneity, and non-dominating power.

Chakra Two: Power of Relationships
Sacred Truth: Honor One Another

The second chakra, located in the abdomen, lower back, and sexual organs, is related to the element water, and to emotions and sexuality. It connects us to others through feeling, desire, sensation, and movement. Ideally this chakra brings us fluidity and grace, depth of feeling, sexual fulfillment, and the ability to accept change.

Chakra One: Tribal Power
Sacred Truth: All is One

Located at the base of the spine, this chakra forms our foundation. It represents the element earth, and is therefore related to our survival instincts, and to our sense of grounding and connection to our bodies and the physical plane. Ideally this chakra brings us health, prosperity, security, and dynamic presence.
