Nature, Animals & Nature Spirits
In our quest to ‘look within’ to discover ourselves, we often forget the importance of also looking on the outside to remind ourselves of what we come from. Many of us have not only lost sight of the beauty of nature, but also of its magic and mystique. North Americans are, however, beginning to realize what the Irish have known about all along…the magical world of faeries, elves and all the little spirits that live in the ethereal world of our planet! Did you really think that the fairy world was imagined? Perhaps it began in the imagination, but their magical world is believed to be as real as our world (only much more fun!). Nature spirits are as helpful as our spiritual guides. They are in touch with all earthly concerns, from agriculture to animals, to sporting activities.
Each species of plant and animal has a deva (little spirit) connected to it. Since the beginning of time, people have had ceremonies and rituals aimed at connecting with, and appealing to the spirits that guard the earth. Our connection to the Earth and nature has karmic implications, and as many cultures are aware of this, they treat nature with deep respect. Offerings and other forms of gifts and prayers are given to the spirit world in thanksgiving for the gifts received from nature.
